President Donald Trump says his return to the presidency is not about fueling wars, either within the United States or abroad.
He believes his tenure will rather be about bringing an end to them.
Speaking at West Palm Beach in Florida, where he delivered his victory speech, Mr Trump told his supporters that his administration would prioritise approaches aimed at ending wars.
“We have no wars, except we defeated ISIS—we defeated ISIS in record time. But we have no wars. They say the U.S. started wars; I’m not going to start wars, I’m going to stop wars,” he declared.
Mr Trump emphasised that his focus would be on providing “the most incredible future” for America.
The U.S. has faced criticism for its indirect involvement in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Under President Joe Biden’s administration, the U.S. has provided extensive military and financial support to Ukraine. This support has led some to claim that the U.S. is indirectly "at war" with Russia, especially given the large-scale arms shipments and intelligence-sharing between the two countries.
Additionally, the U.S. has been involved in a growing military and diplomatic rivalry with China, particularly in the South China Sea and over Taiwan. While this has not yet escalated into an armed conflict, both nations have engaged in military posturing, raising concerns about a potential future conflict.
For Donald Trump, however, the U.S. has no ongoing wars, and he insists that his priority will not be to engage in conflicts with other nations but rather to build peaceful relations across the world.
