Seasoned journalist and Output Editor at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Akwasi Sarpong, has been honored for his exceptional role in BBC OS’s news coverage of a pivotal moment in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Sarpong received the Association for International Broadcasting (AIBs) 2024 award for "News Coverage – Audio" on November 22, 2024.

The recognition was for the BBC World Service radio broadcast titled "Gaza War: First Hostages Released."
As Output Editor during the first release of Israeli hostages by Hamas last October, Sarpong played a critical role in leading his team through the historic broadcast. His leadership ensured accurate, comprehensive, and impactful coverage that resonated with global audiences.
Reflecting on the milestone, Sarpong expressed gratitude for his journey and the teamwork that made the achievement possible:
"What a journey from producer to presenter to Output Editor. God’s grace and grit against odds have paid off. Humbled," he remarked.
He also extended his appreciation to the OS team, acknowledging the contributions of presenters, journalists, producers, studio managers, and editors Simon and Arja for their collaborative efforts.
