The Electoral Commission (EC) has affirmed its full preparedness to conduct the special voting exercise scheduled for Monday, December 2, promising a peaceful, transparent, and fair process.
Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, made this assurance during a meeting with security chiefs at the Commission's headquarters, emphasizing that all ballot papers and voting materials are ready for the exercise.
“We are confident that the special voting on Monday, December 2, will proceed successfully. Officials are ready, with an adequate supply of ballot papers, indelible ink, necessary forms, and biometric machines to ensure a smooth and efficient exercise,” she stated.
Jean Mensa highlighted that the special voting exercise serves as a critical test of the Commission’s readiness for the upcoming general elections. She reassured the public that measures are in place to deliver a credible and seamless process.
The EC has also published the register of individuals on the special voters’ list on its website, enabling registered voters to verify their voting centres.
To support the process, the Commission has recruited close to 210,000 temporary officials, including returning officers, deputy returning officers, polling assistants, and presiding officers, to oversee operations at over 40,900 polling stations nationwide.
“These officials are currently undergoing intensive training in all constituencies,” Mrs. Mensa explained. “Additionally, we are developing instructional videos to complement the physical training. Once the training is completed, these videos will be disseminated to enable staff to refresh their knowledge of the training programs they have received.”
Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, also commended the EC for its thorough preparations and exemplary leadership in electoral matters.
“We have been with you every step of the journey, fully supporting your mandate,” Dr. Dampare said. “The progress we see today reflects significant improvements over the past. Madam Chair and your team, we thank you. Ghana and Africa are grateful for your exemplary leadership in elections, and we celebrate this special bond with you.”
