Tensions erupted at the Akurem polling station in the Asawase Constituency when some National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters objected to New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate Manaf Ibrahim's decision to stand in the voting queue to cast his vote.
The supporters argued that candidates are typically expected to vote quickly and leave to avoid causing disruptions.
However, Ibrahim declined the preferential treatment offered to him, choosing instead to queue as an ordinary voter.
He explained that his decision was motivated by a desire to connect personally with his constituents and experience the voting process like everyone else.
The situation briefly halted activities at the polling station as security personnel and electoral officials stepped in to address the commotion.
The tension subsided following the intervention, and voting resumed without further incident.
