In a tightly fought contest, Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been declared the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary election.
Bright emerged victorious with 18,539 votes, narrowly edging out her rival, Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 18,421 votes. The slim margin highlighted the fiercely competitive nature of the race.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for Ebi Bright and the NDC, as they succeeded in wresting the Tema Central seat from the NPP.
Her victory is regarded as a reflection of the broader momentum that carried the NDC to a strong performance in the 2024 elections.
The NDC’s parliamentary gains were mirrored in the presidential elections, where John Dramani Mahama was officially declared President-elect by the Electoral Commission.
Mr Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55% of the valid ballots, defeating the NPP’s Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who garnered 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61%.
On the national stage, the NDC achieved a parliamentary majority, capturing over 170 seats, including key constituencies previously dominated by the NPP.
