The High Court in Accra has instructed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate the parliamentary election results for the Techiman South constituency before the declaration of the MP-elect.
In a ruling delivered by Justice Forson Agyapong, he stated: "The EC did not complete the collation of results in the constituency, as there are 147 outstanding polling stations that have not been collated. Despite demands for action, the EC has failed to act." This was reported by JoyNews' Kwaku Asante following the case hearing on Saturday, January 4.
This ruling marks the fourth case heard by Justice Agyapong that day. According to his judgment, the EC is required to complete the collation of results from the outstanding 147 polling stations and incorporate them into the already collated results.
Justice Agyapong further emphasized the need for security measures to facilitate the re-collation process, stating: "The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) should provide adequate armed security to ensure the EC can complete the collation and declare the winner."
In all four cases, Justice Agyapong ruled in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its candidates, who had sought an order of mandamus to compel the EC to complete the collation of results in Techiman South and the other three constituencies in Greater Accra, namely Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Tema Central.
Supporters of the NPP present at the court celebrated the ruling, viewing the verdicts as a necessary step to rectify the alleged discrepancies in the election results across the constituencies.
They are hopeful that the re-collation will work in their favour.
