The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Techiman South constituency.
This announcement follows a ruling by the High Court on Saturday, January 4, which determined that the EC had not completed the collation of results in the constituency.
According to the court, 147 polling station results were outstanding, and despite demands, the EC had failed to address the issue.
The court ordered the EC to collate the results from the remaining 147 polling stations and incorporate them into the already collated results.
In compliance with the ruling, the EC completed the collation process and subsequently declared Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah the winner of the parliamentary election.
Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah secured 46,663 votes, defeating his closest rival, Christopher Beyere Baasongti of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 43,429 votes.
The EC indicated that even if one polling station result is added to the votes obtained by any of the candidates, the results will remain unchanged.
Techiman South is among the four constituencies still in contention between the two major parties with barely 2 days more for parliament to swear in newly-elected MPs.
The NPP had rulings going in their favour regarding the other three constituencies namely Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central and Tema Central.
Following the ruling, the EC immediately commenced the collation today ostensibly to conclude and gazette the results before the swearing-in of new MPs.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice of appeal against the High Court's ruling on all the four constituencies.
