The Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama at his private office in Accra to congratulate him on his assumption to the highest office of the land.
The Overlord of Gonjaland, accompanied by a delegation of chiefs from his Kingdom, participated in the President’s inauguration on January 7 at the Independence Square in Accra.
The Yagbonwura’s delegation included paramount chiefs within his Kingdom, namely: Damongowura Kelly Seidu Boresa I, Mankpanwura Achode Borenyi I, Kulawwura Kotokyi Borewunche I, and Kekpandewura Shaibu Baba Mumuni Kanyiti I.
The rest were Yagbon Imam (Supreme Imam of the Gonja Kingdom) Sheik Alhaji Abdulai Kassim and Yagbonwura’s Linguist Sulemana Adam.
The Yagbonwura offered his blessings and full support to his son; President Mahama, who has officially begun work.
He wished the President well in all his endeavours.
President Mahama expressed gratitude to the Yagbonwura for the honour done him by his participation in his inauguration.
He noted that at the appropriate time he would also go home to pay his respect to the Yagbonwura and then receive any advice that he had for him, to make his tenure successful and bring peace and progress to all Ghanaians.
“And so, I want to thank my father for this visit and for coming to grace the occasion,” President Mahama said.
“It makes me proud that the whole of Ghana witnessed our Overlord and King came and sat in, in a very graceful manner and witnessed the whole ceremony.”
He expressed gratitude to the chiefs and imams who came with the Yagbonwura for his inauguration.
