Some traders at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi are counting their losses after a fire gutted two shops in the largest trading centre in the Ashanti region.
The fire, which is believed to have started in the early hours of Friday, ravaged property including textiles and other fabrics contained in the shop.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in a shop which has been closed for over a year now and tore into a nearby shop, destroying goods in the shop.

President of the Federation of Kejetia Traders Nana Akwasi Prempeh, says the early intervention of the Fire Service prevented more shops from being affected.
"The security agencies patrol the market every night since we got the Intel that some assailants have planned to set the facility ablaze," he said.
It is unclear the cause of the fire as the Fire Service unit at the market works to establish circumstances leading to the fire outbreak.

The traders have been urged to put off all their electrical gadgets before leaving the market.
In the last few weeks, there have been several fire incidents in commercial centres across the country.
