Renowned South African marketing specialist Etienne Heyns has heaped praise on Herbert Mensah, the President of Rugby Africa and a member of the Executive Board of World Rugby, following Herbert's recent recognition with the prestigious Order of the Volta at the Ghana National Awards.
Etienne Heyns’ admiration for his longtime friend was captured in heartfelt comments on Myjoyonline.com after the announcement of Herbert’s accolade. His words celebrated Herbert’s humility, character, and the positive impact he has on those around him:
“Herbert, dear friend, congratulations once again! Your humility continues to shine brightly, and your smiling face always carries the perfect balance of humble pride. Your actions serve as a constant reminder that true greatness doesn’t need to be loud—it speaks through kindness, integrity, and a willingness to lift others.
“You are a living example of the saying, ‘A rising tide lifts all ships.’ Your success and character elevate everyone around you, and we are all fortunate to witness the positive ripple effects of your journey. Your example inspires us all to rise together, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
“With admiration, from your friend in Stellenbosch, South Africa.”

A relationship rooted in excellence
Speaking to Myjoyonline.com, Heyns reflected on his long-standing professional and personal relationship with Herbert. Years ago, Heyns appointed Herbert Mensah as the West Africa Manager for M-Net, a prominent television network. Herbert’s exceptional leadership helped grow MultiChoice subscriber numbers across the region, showcasing his unparalleled business acumen.
“Herbert also organised a number of M-Net Face of Africa events in Accra as part of the search for a supermodel from Africa,” Heyns recounted. “Our professional work relationship developed into a close familial friendship with Herbert, his wife Naana, and their kids. Herbert is godfather to my son, Dr. Edo Heyns.”
Heyns’ reflections paint a picture of Herbert Mensah as a leader who not only excels in his professional pursuits but also fosters deep and lasting relationships.
A humble legacy of leadership
Herbert Mensah’s recognition with the Order of the Volta further cements his legacy as a transformative figure in sports administration and beyond. His leadership of Rugby Africa and contributions to World Rugby are matched by his enduring ability to inspire and uplift others.
As Etienne Heyns aptly put it, Herbert’s success is not defined by accolades alone but by the integrity, humility, and vision that inspire those around him.
