The Minister nominee for the Ashanti Region, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has stated that in order to capture the region, he is advocating for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on developing the region during the first three years of their term in office.
Dr Amoakohene said, "At least we have four years; if all things are equal, let’s use the first three years to develop the region." He added, "We can achieve everything we want in the election year, but if we commit all hands on deck within the first three years, we will be able to turn things around for the betterment of the region."
Acknowledging that the Ashanti region is a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Amoakohene emphasised that his best approach would be to work closely with various sectors of the NDC government to bring development to the region, as this would help build support for the party.
"The region is predominantly NPP, which is reflected in the parliamentary seats. To navigate this challenge, I will ensure that, when given the nod, I constantly engage with the Members of Parliament from the region so that we can establish a clear framework for its development. Only when they are kept in the dark will they come and agitate," he explained, in response to a question during his vetting in Parliament on Monday about how he would manage affairs in a region that is traditionally not aligned with the NDC.
As one of the young nominees in John Mahama's government, Dr Amoakohene assured the people of the Ashanti region that they could expect the best from him.
He pledged that under his leadership, all uncompleted projects in the region would be dealt with, especially health facilities and roads.
