Ghanaian musician Article Wan has come to the defence of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, whose controversial character has often been a subject of debate.
In an interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Article Wan argued that Ghanaians should focus on Shatta Wale's talent rather than his character.
"I think it's about time we have to forget the artiste's character and draw another agenda of pushing the artiste's talent regardless," he said.
When asked by DJ Slim if Shatta Wale's character was not destructive to the music ecosystem, Article Wan replied that there should be a balance.
"Handling somebody who is too characteristic is difficult, if they realize they can't control the person, then they pack the person," he added.
Article Wan emphasised that an artiste's character is part of their brand, and that it's up to the audience to separate the art from the artist.
"When I see some kinds of talents, I see the character and know that the character is not good but I feel the character is a part of the job," he said.
Article Wan’s defence is one that demonstrates love, unity and respect towards other artistes in the industry, signifying the uniqueness of everyone’s craft and brand which makes them who they are regardless of their character and identifies their character as a part of the work.
