The Ashanti Caucus of Members of Parliament has refuted reports alleging that the recent Ashanti Regional Caucus election was influenced by political affiliations, specifically with the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a press statement signed by Old Tafo legislator Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Caucus labelled such claims as entirely false and an attempt to mislead the public.
The statement outlined that the election process adhered strictly to democratic principles, ensuring fairness and transparency.
The Caucus stressed that there was no external interference or favouritism, and the results were based solely on the independent choices of its members.
Additionally, the caucus rejected reports that Nana Ayew Afriyie received only eight votes in the election, describing the claim as factually incorrect.
They maintained that any attempt to present such figures was a deliberate effort to spread misinformation.
The statement further clarified that Nana Ayew Afriyie was not present at the election, did not campaign, and had formally communicated his decision not to contest any leadership position.
The Caucus asserted that any suggestion to the contrary was completely false.
Reaffirming their commitment to democracy, fairness, and transparency, the Ashanti Caucus called on the public and party supporters to disregard the misleading reports.
They assured members of their dedication to unity and progress within both the Caucus and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
