The Ejura Divisional Council in the Ashanti Region has committed GH¢100,000 to support efforts aimed at eliminating illicit drug use and crime in the area.
The fight, spearheaded by the Assembly members through the support of the Police and Community Watch Dog Committees, aims at restoring the dwindling image of the municipality.
The watch dog teams, since inception in various electoral areas, have worked with the police for the protection of lives and properties in the area.

Despite the successes being chalked by the partnership, the watch dog teams continue to struggle financially.
Addressing the Assembly members and security heads, Chief of Ejura, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, said the donation was in response to a request by the Assembly members for the traditional council's support.

He emphasised the cash support is geared towards tooling the volunteer groups.
Barimah Osei Hwedie II revealed eighty thousand cedis of the total amount was from the coffers of the traditional council, while two businessmen in the area, Joseph Acquah Amankra, the Chief Executive Officer of Belove Knowledge Links and a former MP for the area, Mohamed Pangabu added GH¢10,000 each.
He further called on businesses and other philanthropists to support the course, appreciating members of the traditional council for their efforts.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Watch Dog Committee, the Divisional Police Commander for Ejura, Superintendent David Ashong, commended the traditional council for their immense contribution to security.
He said the help would go a long way to help the police and the watch dog committees to work effectively to protect lives and properties.
He pledged the police will follow up to ensure the money is used for its intended purpose.

Police in the Ejura Municipality formed close partnership with community volunteer groups after some angry youth set a police station ablaze.
