Former Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (Retired) Bright Oduro, has accused the immediate past Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, of deliberately undermining the authority of Christian Tetteh Yohuno during his tenure as Deputy IGP.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Saturday, 22nd March, Bright Oduro claimed that Yohuno encountered serious obstacles in carrying out his responsibilities due to alleged interference from Dampare.
He asserted that the former IGP made it difficult for Yohuno to assemble a trusted team by either transferring or interdicting officers he had personally selected.
According to Oduro, these actions significantly hindered Yohuno’s ability to establish an efficient support system within the police hierarchy.
He revealed that officers chosen by Yohuno were reassigned to distant regions, while others faced disciplinary measures that effectively removed them from their roles.
"Christian Tetteh Yohuno was not allowed to function effectively as Deputy IGP under Dampare, and I know this for a fact," Mr Oduro stated.
"Some of the officers he selected to work with him were either transferred to the northern parts of Ghana or interdicted. When he tried to intervene and requested the IGP to reconsider, that too became a problem, leading to one of the officers being interdicted. That particular case is currently before the courts."
Bright Oduro further alleged that Dampare's tenure saw an unprecedented number of legal actions against him by police officers.
"There are so many cases against Dampare in court. In the history of the Ghana Police Service, which IGP has faced such an overwhelming number of legal challenges?" he questioned.
