The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation to establish the exact circumstances that led to the death of a police officer, Constable John Kwabena Dogbey.
This comes after Constable Dogbey drowned in the Offin River on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, while on an anti-galamsey operation at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region.
Preliminary findings indicate that Constable Dogbey, a member of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Task force, was dismantling a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners when he slipped and fell into the river.
The police stated that despite immediate rescue efforts, he was retrieved only after several hours by divers and rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, where he was pronounced dead.
It further said the deceased officer’s body has been transferred to the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The Police administration has assured the bereaved family of its support during this difficult period.
Meanwhile, the task force successfully dismantled one Chanfan machine and seized two pumping machines, two excavator batteries, and three excavator keys along with their chassis numbers.
