A sod-cutting ceremony has been performed at the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research offices in Accra for the construction of an ultra-modern laboratory.
The central laboratory would consist of analysis room for aqua-culture underground water, food security and undertake research into health related issues concerning water such as bilharzias, elephantiasis and mosquito among others.
Its completion would also end the mid shift system of the institution moving from one facility to the other to undertake research and laboratory works among others.
The Director-General of the Institute, Dr. Victor Agyeman said on Wednesday the construction of the laboratory was timely for a body tasked with the responsibility to undertake water findings.
He maintained that a country can only develop through effective and reliable science, technology and researches.
Dr. Agyeman said practical aspect of science was essential noting that relevant facilities are needed for people to practice what they learned in the classroom.
The Board Chairman of the Institute, Mr. Amponsah Mensah, who chaired the function, said the facility would not be for the Institute alone, but opened to other institutions, agencies, corporate bodies and individuals for use.
The Project Manager, Mr. Richard Asamoah, said it would take between four to five years to complete the project, saying the workers would ensure that they work to meet the deadline.
