Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has cautioned that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is grappling with deep internal divisions that pose a serious existential threat to its future as a viable political force in Ghana.

The 12-member committee assigned to investigate the opposition New Patriotic Party's (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections on Wednesday, April 16, presented findings of the probe to the National leadership of the party.

At the event held at Alisa Hotel in Accra, Chairman of the committee, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye and his team presented the official document to the party.

Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturdy, April 19, Mr Fuseini pointed to deep divisions within the NPP, driven largely by conflicting views on the legacy of former President Akufo-Addo and the direction of the party post-2024.

“If you are going to go along that tangent, because your party is clearly facing an existential threat. There are those who think within your party Nana Akufo-Addo is largely responsible for the defeat of your party."

"Nana Akufo-Addo’s group too think that the party cannot revive itself, if it doesn’t ride on his legacy. So, you have these two to contend with – it’s just like confession and avoidance. Admit that you did something wrong so that you can rebuild your party.” he said.

The rift, according to Mr Fuseini, lies between factions who hold the former President Nana Akufo-Addo, accountable for the party’s recent electoral losses, and loyalists who insist that any political revival must be rooted in protecting and continuing his legacy.

Describing the situation as one of "confession and avoidance", Mr Fuseini urged the party to come to terms with its recent failures and face hard truths if it hopes to recover credibility and public trust.

“Admit that you did something wrong so that you can rebuild your party,” he advised.
