Ghana’s U-15 girls made the final of the CAF African Schools Football Championship at the first time of asking.
The Black Damsels defeated defending champions, South Africa, in the semifinals on Friday, April 25.
The game, played at the University of Ghana Stadium, produced a five-goal thriller with the host nation claiming a 3-2 win.
Joyce Boatey-Agyei’s side found the break early in the game when Hajara Adam’s cross found the head of Jennifer Awuku for the opening goal.
The goal was Awuku’s third in the competition having scored twice in the group stage.
South Africa leveled the score through Lisakhanya Situlweni who beat the Ghanaian defence before shooting past goalkeeper Zulaiha Sulemana.
The two teams went into the break with the score at 1-1.
Hajara Adam restored Ghana’s lead with a long range effort from a free kick before Rahama Azimpaga Mohammed made it 3-1 for the Black Damsels.
Ghana enjoyed a bit of scare in the final minutes after the game after there was a mixed up at the back leading to an own goal to make it 3-2.
However, the girls held their nerves, seeing out the threats of South Africa to make the final.
Ghana will come up against Uganda in the final of this year’s tournament after the latter beat Morocco in the other semifinal game.
