Lieutenant General William Agyapong has been elevated from a Two‑Star to a Three‑Star General, effective 1 May 2025.
The promotion marks a significant milestone in Lt. Gen. Agyapong’s distinguished military career and positions him to lead the Ghana Armed Forces with enhanced authority and responsibility.
Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah presided over the decoration ceremony at 8:00 am this morning in his office at The Square, Ministry of Defence.

“I had the privilege of decorating Lt. Gen. Agyapong with his rank,” Dr Boamah posted on his Facebook page, emphasising the solemnity of the occasion and the Minister’s personal role in the promotion.
Reflecting on the elevation, Dr Boamah expressed confidence in the new Chief of Defence Staff’s leadership.

“We trust you to enhance the capabilities and operational efficiency of the Ghana Armed Forces,” he wrote, underscoring the government’s expectations that Lt. Gen. Agyapong will modernise training, improve readiness, and strengthen national defence.
The promotion comes at a time when the Ghana Armed Forces are undertaking extensive modernisation efforts and expanding regional security cooperation.

Observers note that Lt. Gen. Agyapong’s experience and strategic vision will be pivotal in navigating evolving security challenges both at home and abroad.
