An aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has strongly condemned the assault of journalists and what he described as heavy-handed police presence during the Ablekuma North parliamentary election rerun.
In a social media post, Dennis Miracles Aboagye described the attacks on media personnel as “completely shameful,” stressing that “journalism is not a crime and should not be met with brutality.”
His comments follow reports that two journalists one from Joy News and another from GHOne TV were assaulted while covering events at polling centres. The GHOne reporter was allegedly slapped, while the Joy News journalist was manhandled while on duty.
Miracles also expressed concern over the presence of individuals he referred to as “hoodlums in police uniforms,” insisting that such persons should be removed from polling stations to preserve public confidence in the process.

He added that the intimidating posture of some police officers was discouraging eligible voters from participating in the rerun.
Calling for calm, he reiterated the NPP’s commitment to a peaceful, fair, and transparent electoral process.
