The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, has disclosed that a total of 14.2 million litres of premix fuel have been distributed across the country since February 2025.
According to Madam Arthur, this increase in distribution was made possible through the expansion of authorised distributors from one to six.
"At the start of 2025, only one bulk distribution company supplied premix fuel, but the ministry has now engaged five additional BDCs, resulting in the supply of 14.2 million litres between February and June 2025. This diversification strengthens supply reliability and eliminates bottlenecks," she said at the Government’s Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 6.
She explained that all consignments are now transported directly from the Tema Oil Refinery to designated landing beaches, thereby eliminating the involvement of third parties.
"Premix fuel is now delivered directly from the Tema Oil Refinery to landing beaches, bypassing intermediaries," she noted.
The Minister indicated that the reform is intended to ensure fair access to premix fuel for fisherfolk and reduce incidents of corruption and diversion.
"This reform ensures equitable access and reduces corruption and diversion."
Madam Arthur added that these measures are part of the government's broader efforts to sanitise the fisheries sector.
