The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash of Wednesday, August 6, which claimed the lives of eight distinguished citizens. 

The victims included high-ranking government officials, military officers and political figures who, according to the IPR, “dedicated their lives to public service and to safeguarding the peace, development and progress of our nation.”

In a solemn statement signed by IPR President Ms Esther A. N. Cobbah, the institute named the deceased as Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. 

“Their commitment, patriotism and sense of duty remain an inspiration to all,” Ms Cobbah said.

The IPR extended condolences to the bereaved families, President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces and the entire nation. 

“We stand in solidarity with all Ghanaians during this period of profound grief,” the statement read, adding that the loss was not only personal to the families but also a blow to the country’s leadership and service to the public.

The institute called on Ghanaians to honour the memory of the departed by upholding their values of dedication and integrity in national service. 

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace and may their legacy continue to light the path of national service,” Ms Cobbah concluded.
