Dr Williams Ohene-Adjei, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), urged churches to own the Tier Three Pension and register their congregations under the scheme to guarantee their future financial security.
He explained that every individual working in the informal sector could register, join, contribute to and benefit from the tier three pension scheme.
He asked the churches to set aside some of the dues paid by members and contribute to the pension scheme.
Dr Ohene-Adjei gave the advice when addressing the 2025 Joint Camp Meeting of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) of the Mid-West Ghana Conference (MWGC) in Sunyani, on the theme “Called to be Faithful: Commandment of God and faith of Jesus”.
More than 1,500 congregants drawn from Sunyani East, Wamanafo and Amasu Districts of the church attended the conference.
Dr Ohene-Adjei indicated that besides their spiritual development, it behooved churches to also ensure the physical development of the members, saying with the tier three pensions everyone’s financial security was guaranteed.
He said it was laudable that many churches had now established cooperative societies to support the financial needs of members, however, those societies and various groups in the churches, including men, women and youth fellowships and the choir ought to also ensure that members contributed to their tier three pensions.
Dr Ohene-Adjei said: “by doing so every member of the church will be financially secured and thereby lessen members’ overreliance on the churches for financial aid in challenging moments”.
He lauded the government for establishing the Cocoa Pension Scheme, saying churches could also emulate that so that their members would also have some hope for the future.
Earlier, Pastor Thomas Akosah Agyapong, the Director, Stewardship and Strategic Planning of the MWGC and Sunyani East District Pastor of the SDA lauded the NPRA for educating the church, and urged the members to consider, register and join the tier three pension scheme for their own benefit.
