Bibiani GoldStars CEO, Akwasi Adu, has called for an end to criticisms over the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
His remarks come during the 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram, where members are considering the amendment that could allow the current GFA President, Kurt Okraku, to contest for a third term when his current mandate ends in 2027.
Speaking to 3Sports, Adu stressed that the decision should not be viewed as being tailored to benefit Okraku.
“The extension of the GFA presidential term is not an extension of Kurt Okraku’s term; it is from the GFA,” he said.
“In my opinion, we should remove such modifiers from the system. How can you say that an Exco can go for three terms another angle the president can go for two terms? It’s not about Kurt Okraku; whoever feels capable of managing the affairs of the GFA should come forward."
If approved, the change would open the door for Okraku to serve three terms, a precedent last seen under former president Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Nyantakyi’s long tenure ended following the 2018 Anas exposé, which led to his resignation and a subsequent FIFA ban.
