A mentally ill woman who spent four years on remand for beating her pregnant daughter to death has been set free.
Yaa Faustie was remanded at the Tamale Central Prisons for the offense.
During a visit to the prisons by Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng, Yaa Faustie said she desperately wanted to go home to her family and children.
She said she felt terrible that her children were left home alone with no one to cater for them when she is alive. The situation made her cry, she added.
Yaa Faustie said it was her greatest desire to return home and perform her duties as a mother to her six children.
Joy News over the past three weeks has been running both television and radio documentaries on the plight of some remand prisoners in the country.
In his latest documentary titled “Locked and Forgotten”, senior reporter Seth Kwame Boateng highlighted how some remand prisoners have been languishing in jail – some for as long as 10 years.
Following the documentary, Yaa Faustie’s case was called and struck out by the court.
Seth after her release, called to find out how she was feeling and she could not hide her excitement for being united with her family again.
She expressed her sincerest gratitude to Seth Kwame Boateng and all those who contributed to her release.
