The Principal of the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Kwapong in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwame Amoh Adinkrah, has raised concerns about the substandard state of the school’s male hostel, which he says is negatively affecting academic work.
He said this in an interview with Adom News at the launch of the school’s 10th anniversary, held under the theme “Shelter, A Resource for Academic Excellence.”
He explained that since the establishment of the college in 2015, the institution cannot boast of a befitting hostel facility for male students—a situation he described as disturbing.
According to him, the limited space in the current hostel has led to congestion, which poses health risks. He added that as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations, scheduled for November this year, the school intends to appeal to government, individuals, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders to assist in putting up a modern hostel for the male students.
The Chief of Kwapong, Nana Obuobi Forkuo I, also expressed worry over the state of the school’s infrastructure. He noted that, compared to other nursing colleges in the region that were established after the Kwapong Nursing College, the institution lags behind in terms of facilities to support effective teaching and learning.
He emphasized the urgent need for a befitting kitchen, a skills laboratory, teachers’ quarters, and additional lecture halls, and called on stakeholders, especially government, to intervene.
