The Leukaemia Project Foundation (LPF) will host the Captain’s Cup Polo Tournament from 3rd to 7th September 2025 in collaboration with the Accra Polo Club, as part of efforts to raise funds for Ghana’s first Centre for Haematology and Clinical Genetics at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The tournament forms part of LPF’s activities to mark Leukaemia Month, observed globally in September, and will bring together supporters, sponsors, and the polo community to drive awareness and support for the fight against blood disorders.
“Leukaemia Month reminds us of the urgent need for improved healthcare access for blood disorder patients in Ghana,” said Gerard Hillary Osei Boakye, President of LPF.

“With the continued support of our partners and sponsors, we are confident that this vision of a world-class treatment and research centre at KBTH will become a reality, saving countless lives.”
Since 2006, LPF has been advocating, supporting patients, and driving healthcare development for leukaemia and related conditions. Its mission, the Foundation said, “thrives on the generosity and collaboration of dedicated individuals and institutions.”
Key benefactors include Ecobank Ghana, Stanbic Bank, Engineers and Planners, Rana Motors, ADB, Vanguard Assurance, Caitec Motors, Chase Petroleum, Kofi Ababio and Sons, Mrs. Adu Wusu, Automotive Springs, and Allied Oil.
The Foundation also highlighted the role of the Edward Osei Boakye Trust Fund and its Trustees, noting their “commitment has been vital in all administrative, technical, and architectural efforts toward establishing the Centre.”
In addition to the Polo Tournament, LPF has lined up an Operatic and Choral Concert in November 2025 to raise further funds.
“As we prepare to break ground for construction, we encourage more contributions, both in cash and kind, to help realise this vision,” the Foundation added.
