Two friends have been jailed for 36 years by the Kwadaso Circuit court in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti region, for conspiring and robbing a taxi driver at Atwima Kwanwoma.
Maxmillian Foli, alias ‘Thug,’ pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy, robbery and was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to 21 years imprisonment, while Blessing Ohe, alias ‘Demon,’ also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and was jailed for 15 years.
The facts of the case, as presented by Police Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi to the court presided over by Jephthah Appau, were that the complainant, Emmanuel Poku, the taxi driver, resided at Bokankye near Asuoyeboa, and the accused persons were also residents of Atwima-Akyeremade, near Kwadaso.
He said on August 28, 2025, at about 16:00 hours, the convicts met at their usual base and planned to hire and rob a taxi driver with pairs of scissors.
At about 18:00 hours on the same day, Foli called Ohe to meet him at Sofoline to execute their plan at 9:00 pm, but at 10:30, he was not available.
Foli therefore targeted and hired the complainant at a fee of GH¢70 to take him from Sofoline to Akyeremade.
Upon entering the Akyeremade town, Foli saw Ohe by the roadside and instructed the complainant to stop and pick him up, but he sensed danger and drove to Kwanwoma.
Just before the Kwanwoma township, Foli pulled a pair of scissors, stabbed the complainant on his back and instructed him to surrender his car and valuables.
The complainant, in pain, left the car to Foli, who drove it back to Sofoline direction after taking the unspecified daily sales, car tape, and a Samsung A20 mobile phone of the complainant, bolted and left the car behind.
A report was made to the Denchemmuoso police, and the car was towed to the police station.
The facts stated that Ohe was arrested that night, and a search of him revealed a pair of scissors. On September 1, 2025, Foli was also arrested from his hideout at Kwanwoma.
In their caution statements, they admitted the crime and, after further investigations, were charged and brought before the court.
