The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has brought under control a major fire that swept through the Accra Timber Market near Ayalolo School in the early hours of Saturday, 13 September 2025.
According to officials, the emergency call was received at 1:17 a.m., with the first crew arriving on the scene within four minutes, at 1:21 a.m.
In all, seven fire engines were deployed from key stations across the capital — including Accra City, the Regional Headquarters Substation, Ministries, Circle, National Headquarters, Abelemkpe, and Legon.

They were supported by one GNFS water tanker and two additional tankers provided by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Ablekuma Municipal Assembly.

The blaze, which destroyed several shops trading in wooden planks and hardware supplies, was eventually contained after hours of intense firefighting. It was confined at 6:26 a.m., brought under control by 6:37 a.m., and fully extinguished at 11:44 a.m.

Two firefighters sustained injuries during the operation. One suffered an electric shock, while the other sustained burns to his left arm.
Both were treated and discharged, with the GNFS confirming they are responding well to treatment.
