The Police administration has shut down the Kukurantumi Police Station in the Eastern Region and withdrawn all personnel following violent attacks by irate youth.
According to the Eastern Regional Police Command, the attack occurred on Sunday, September 21, 2025, after the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, also known as D-ball.
He had been arrested for unlawful entry and stealing and was receiving treatment at the Community Hospital in Kukurantumi before his death.

Angry youth stormed the police station and barracks, pelting them with stones, clubs, and other weapons. They attempted to set the building ablaze.

A police reinforcement team was quickly deployed to restore calm and order.
The Regional Command has since engaged the deceased’s family and community leaders, assuring them of a thorough investigation.

The Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Department are probing the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
Video footage of the attack is under review. Police say perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
The Command has urged the public to resolve grievances through lawful means rather than violence.
