The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), in collaboration with Germany’s National Metrology Institute, Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), has commissioned an upgraded Primary Temperature Laboratory while breaking ground for the construction of a modern E2 Mass Laboratory.
The event, held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, formed part of the “Establishment of a Fit-for-Future National Metrology Institute in Ghana” project.
The upgrade of the GSA’s Temperature Laboratory marks a significant advancement, elevating it from a secondary facility to a primary laboratory.

This transformation represents the first of its kind in Ghana and within the entire ECOWAS sub-region, positioning the country as a leader in scientific measurement standards across West Africa.
The newly commissioned facility now has the capacity to perform fixed-point calibrations according to the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90), a benchmark in precision measurement.

This capability is expected to enhance Ghana’s industrial, scientific, and technological sectors, ensuring greater accuracy and global competitiveness in temperature calibration and standards.
At the same ceremony, officials also cut sod for the construction of a state-of-the-art E2 Mass Laboratory.
Once completed, the facility will further expand Ghana’s metrology infrastructure, strengthening the Authority’s mandate to provide internationally recognised calibration and measurement services that support trade, manufacturing, and research.
