The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has suspended all activities of its Compliance Team related to the imposition of fines on motorists, effective Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The Authority said the decision follows consultations and feedback from the public regarding the ongoing compliance enforcement exercise, which had been intensified to promote adherence to road safety and licensing regulations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the DVLA explained that the suspension is to allow for further engagement with stakeholders before reintroducing the Compliance Team on the roads.
"The Authority, upon further consultation and feedback from the public, announces the suspension of this activity in order to allow for an extended engagement on the matter before reintroducing the Compliance Team on our roads,” part of the statement read.
While emphasising its continued commitment to promoting safety and regulatory compliance, the DVLA said the move is intended to ensure that the public is adequately educated on road safety responsibilities before enforcement resumes.
However, the Authority clarified that the suspension applies only to the enforcement of fines and does not affect existing legal requirements for drivers and vehicles to use public roads.
“This press release does not in any way suspend the legal requirements for drivers and vehicles to use our roads,” it added.
