President John Mahama on Monday, October 20 held a high-level meeting with the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, and the Auditor-General to deliberate on measures aimed at strengthening the enforcement of findings contained in the Auditor-General’s Report.
According a statement issued on October 20, the meeting concluded with a landmark agreement: special courts will be designated specifically to handle cases emanating from audit infractions, including the enforcement of surcharges, disallowances, and the prosecution of related criminal offences.
This development signals a renewed governmental commitment to combating financial mismanagement and improving fiscal discipline within public institutions.
The creation of audit-specific courts is expected to accelerate legal proceedings involving individuals or entities found culpable in the misuse of public funds.

It also seeks to ensure that monies wrongfully spent or lost to misappropriation are promptly recovered by the State.
The initiative, which falls under the Government’s broader anti-corruption and public financial management agenda, is designed to deter potential abuses of public resources, whilst ensuring that those responsible for financial irregularities are held to account in a timely manner.
