The Member of Parliament for Guan, Fred Kwesi Agbenyo, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as an “irreplaceable pillar” in Ghana’s democratic and developmental journey.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, following the news of her passing, Mr. Agbenyo expressed his shock at the loss, recalling that he had recently seen the late First Lady at the Asantehemaa's funeral and she appeared healthy and full of life.
Mr. Agbenyo lauded Nana Konadu’s decades-long commitment to public service, particularly her pioneering role in advancing women’s participation in national development and politics.
“She’s somebody we will remember forever and ever. Her contribution to Ghana’s development, especially democracy, is something that will not be lost on us for several years to come.
“Right from the PNDC days, her involvement in mobilising women, her leadership in the 31st December Women’s Movement, and her role in pushing for women’s empowerment will forever be written in Ghana’s history,” he said.
The MP extended his condolences to the Rawlings family and prayed for the soul of the late former First Lady to rest peacefully.
“If it is the Lord’s will, then it is her time to rest in His bosom. We can only wish her a restful journey and the family the very best of strength in this difficult moment,” he added.
Meanwhile, proceedings in Parliament were adjourned following the announcement of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings’ death.
