The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bekwai, Issaka Salifu, has expressed his commitment to using the ongoing Ashanti Inter-District Soccer Competition as a platform to identify young football talents for lower division clubs and to revive colts’ football in the municipality.
He praised Dr. Frank Amoakohene and President John Dramani Mahama, for creating such a valuable opportunity to nurture sports talent and promote unity across the Ashanti Region.
According to him, the competition provides an excellent avenue to scout promising players who can progress into professional football, while also reigniting interest in youth football structures that once produced top Ghanaian stars.
“The youth have shown interest, thanks to the President and Regional Minister who have helped us in diverse ways to organize this.
“It is to identify and develop talents within our catchments to replace the Essiens, Tony Yeboahs and Abedi Peles. Ghana has a lot of talents but there are people who are in the rural areas that if not such a program, there is no way we can fish them out,” he stated.
The MCE further expressed confidence that the Bekwai Municipal team will win make an impression in the main competition, noting that his players are well-prepared and determined to bring the trophy home.
“What I am seeing here today means that these young boys will go places. I am very sure that during the main competition, people will hear of us because looking at Bekwai, it’s been an old traditional football area, so Bekwai is known when it comes to football,” he added.
The Ashanti Inter-District Soccer Competition continues to attract attention across the region, serving as both a sports development initiative and a unifying event for local communities.
