A fierce fire outbreak has engulfed several commercial shops at Achimota Abofu, near the Shell Filling Station, causing extensive damage to properties.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the incident occurred earlier today, Sunday and that firefighters from Anyaa, National Headquarters, and Legon Fire Stations have been deployed to the scene.
“Our teams are working tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading beyond the affected shops,” the Service stated.
ADO I Isaac Kojo Poku stated that a series of explosions were heard coming from some of the commercial stores.
According to the GNFS, the fire has so far been contained within the affected cluster of shops, while additional fire engines are being mobilised to strengthen the operation.
No injuries or casualties have been recorded and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
