A 42-year-old driver has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Amasaman Circuit Court for stealing cables valued at GH¢37,600.
The court, presided over by Mrs Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, a relief judge, also ordered Eric Oppong, the convict, to pay a fine of 250 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢3,000, in addition to a compensation of GH¢37,000 to the owner of the cables.
Oppong, the convict, admitted entering the house of Mr Richard Danso unlawfully, causing damage to his cables and stealing the items.
Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah informed the Court that Mr Derrick Segla, the complainant, was a caretaker to one Mr Danso, who is domiciled in the United Kingdom and owned a storey building at Papaase.
Oppong, the convict, on the other hand, was a driver and a resident of Nsawam.
Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah said on October 10, 2025, at about 1330 hours, the convict went to the 10- bedroom-storey building at Papaase, which had been fenced and gated, where the complainant lived.
He said the convict entered into the uncompleted storey building, on the second floor and stole the wired electrical cables valued GH¢37,600 and put same into a white sack.
The prosecution said the convict was arrested by the complainant with the assistance of police in the act of stealing the cables, and he was sent to the Adjen Kotoku Police station together with the stolen electrical cables for investigation.
Oppong was duly cautioned with the offence, and he admitted having stolen the electrical cables, the Court heard.
After investigations, he was charged with the offence and arraigned.
