Three people have died, with six others injured, after a head-on collision between a Howo tipper truck and a Daewoo Matiz on the Kpando–Aziave road on Friday, December 5.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 14:28 hours and dispatched a rescue team from the Anfoega Fire Station.
When personnel arrived, they were informed that six injured victims had already been sent to the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital.
According to the GNFS, the tipper truck, registered GN-4585-25, had two occupants. The driver sustained injuries, while the mate escaped unhurt.

The Daewoo Matiz, with registration number GW-5674-19, was carrying eight people. Five passengers were injured, while the driver and two others were trapped in the vehicle.
The rescue team managed to free the trapped victims. However, the driver of the Matiz died at the scene. GNFS officers handed his body over to the police. The other two trapped passengers were taken to the hospital but later died.
Eyewitnesses told the GNFS that the Daewoo Matiz veered into the lane of the tipper truck, leading to the collision. The small car was completely mangled, while the tipper truck suffered damage to its windscreen, front bumper, right headlight, and fenders.

Police officers assisted at the scene, and the GNFS team cleared the debris to restore the flow of traffic.
The GNFS has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, especially during the busy festive season.
