The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has engaged first-term Members of Parliament in a bid to strengthen collaboration and foster effective communication between his office and newly elected legislators.
He announced that similar sessions would soon be extended to continuing MPs, members of the media, and the public through televised broadcasts.
Speaking at the session, the Speaker reaffirmed the vision of the 9th Parliament, stressing the importance of openness, inclusivity, and cultivating a democratic culture rooted in integrity, honesty, civility, and active participation.

He noted that such engagements are vital for building mutual understanding and enhancing legislative efficiency.
Bagbin encouraged the creation of a mentorship programme to enable senior MPs to share knowledge and experiences with first-time legislators.

He highlighted that Parliament has gradually shifted from excessive partisanship to a more mature multiparty democratic environment, and urged new MPs to maintain their party identities while prioritising national development.
The Speaker’s remarks underlined the commitment of Parliament to nurture a legislative culture that balances partisan interests with the broader goals of governance, policy-making, and accountability.

He urged all members to approach their duties with professionalism and dedication to public service.
The engagement was attended by key parliamentary officials, including the Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Deputy Majority Whip Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe, and Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, highlighting the collaborative nature of the initiative.
