The High Court in Koforidua has dismissed an election petition challenging the declaration of Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, as the Member of Parliament for Suhum.
The petition was filed by Kwadjo Asante, an independent candidate who contested the 2024 parliamentary election in the Suhum constituency.
Mr. Asante had asked the court to annul the election results and order a fresh parliamentary poll, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the election.
In its ruling, the court held that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the claims raised in the petition.
The court consequently upheld the declaration of Mr. Asiedu Bekoe as the validly elected Member of Parliament for the constituency.
Following the decision, the court reaffirmed the importance of credible evidence in election disputes, noting that while the law allows candidates to challenge electoral outcomes, such challenges must be firmly grounded in fact and law.
