The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has reiterated his commitment to transparency in legal proceedings, emphasising that he has never declared anyone guilty prior to the filing of charges.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, Dr Ayine said he had deliberately and ethically refrained from commenting on pending cases, focusing instead on keeping Ghanaians informed about the progress and outcomes of investigations.
“I have stayed away, deliberately and ethically, from commenting on the pending proceedings,” he said.
“My approach or strategy is only to inform the Ghanaian public and my fellow citizens about what I have found in the investigations. I have never pronounced anyone guilty prior to filing charges, and despite what anyone says, I am not going to stop accounting to the people before filing charges.”
Dr Ayine stressed that providing updates before charges are filed is central to his approach, as it allows the public to understand the steps taken and the results obtained during investigations.
“That, for me, is the best way to tell the people the steps you have taken and the results you have obtained before you go and file charges. So, I am not going to abandon that strategy,” he added.
He noted that transparency does not amount to prejudging suspects but rather ensures that citizens are informed about government actions in ongoing investigations.
