A 33-year old student of the University of Cape Coast is in critical condition after he and four others came crashing to the ground when the church building they were working on collapsed.
Kwame Yeboah, was rushed to the St. Patrick Catholic Hospital at Offinso-Maase on Monday afternoon in an unconscious state after being referred by the local clinic for what is believed to be severe waist injuries.
He and his colleagues were assisting three carpenters working on the church building for the Barekuma branch of the Saviour Church of Ghana in the Atwima Nwabiagya District in the Ashanti Region when the tragedy occurred.
Members of that small church, made up of only six families, have been struggling for many years to raise funds to put up the structure that collapsed.
Their dreams were shattered on Monday when the upper part of the building crumbled soon after carpenters were done with woodwork and were about to fix roofing sheets.
An Elder of the of the church, Akwasi Donkor, told Nhyira News it is disheartening to see all their efforts come to naught in a blink of an eye.
According to him, though Kwame Yeboah is responding to treatment, church members have been shaken by the incident.
