A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday, 13th January 2026, caused extensive damage at the Kpone Market, destroying eleven structures and goods belonging to traders.
According to a post shared on Facebook by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the blaze, which broke out at dawn, prompted a swift response from the GNFS.

Firefighters from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station, supported by personnel from the Devtraco Fire Station, arrived promptly at the scene to contain the inferno.
Through their coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control within one hour and 48 minutes, preventing it from spreading further across the busy market.

GNFS noted that their intervention proved crucial in salvaging more than 200 structures, many of which house traders and small businesses that form the backbone of the local market economy.
Despite the scale of destruction, no injuries or fatalities were recorded. However, eleven traders suffered significant losses after their wares were consumed by the flames.

Later in the day, the Tema Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II (ACFO II) Patrick Sallah, led a team of fire investigators to the market to assess the extent of the damage.

The visit also formed part of efforts to establish the cause of the fire, which is yet to be determined and remains under investigation.
