New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has launched personal attacks on former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over comments he alleged were made by him.
However, available video evidence shows that the statement which Kennedy Agyapong reacted to — and on which he based his blistering attack on the former Vice President — was not made by Dr Bawumia, but by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Addressing NPP delegates in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi stated that the party had historically retained its first-time presidential candidates, with the exception of Professor Albert Adu Boahen. According to him, Professor Adu Boahen was not retained by delegates in 1996 after contesting the 1992 election due to poor health. This claim, he noted, is cited in a book authored by Apenten Appiah-Menka, a close associate of the late professor.
Despite this, Kennedy Agyapong accused Dr Bawumia of making the statement and proceeded to launch personal attacks against him, describing the former Vice President as a liar, among other remarks.
“I have never seen a liar like our former flagbearer before. This man is a liar for saying that Adu Boahen did not contest because he was sick,” Kennedy Agyapong said, wrongly attributing Chairman Wontumi’s statement to Dr Bawumia.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong’s attack on Dr Bawumia has drawn criticism on social media, with many expressing surprise that he could wrongly attribute a comment the former Vice President did not make to him and then proceed to launch what they described as unprovoked attacks.
