The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has extended financial assistance to a 25-year-old patient receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), underscoring the impact of its ongoing pilot programme ahead of a nationwide rollout.
The support followed an application submitted on behalf of Mr Aminu Taibu, who has been diagnosed with ischaemic heart disease and requires urgent medical care.
As part of the pilot phase, which is currently supporting 50 cases across the country, the Fund paid GH¢25,750 directly to UGMC to cover part of Mr Taibu’s treatment costs.
The payment was formally received by the Chief Executive Officer of UGMC, Dr Abdul-Samed Tanko, who assured that the facility would provide the necessary care to aid the patient’s recovery.
Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, said the intervention highlights the importance of the pilot phase, which is designed to test operational systems and ensure the Fund can respond swiftly to critical medical needs before full implementation.
She added that the support reflects government’s broader commitment to improving access to healthcare and providing timely, life-saving assistance to vulnerable Ghanaians, noting that the intervention has given renewed hope to the beneficiary and his family.
