Former Ghana Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Tony Aidoo, has weighed in on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race, urging former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to withdraw from the contest.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, January 30, Dr Aidoo was asked to assess the five aspirants seeking to lead the party into the next general election. In his response, he said Mr Agyapong does not meet the standard required for the presidency.
“So far among the candidates, personally, I think Kennedy Agyapong should opt out,” he stated.
Dr Aidoo explained his position using strong language, arguing that the NPP lawmaker lacks the temperament expected of a presidential candidate.
“We don't want a braggart who lies about people to be our president,” he said on the programme.
According to him, Mr Agyapong does not fit the office of the President. “He is not presidential material,” Dr Aidoo added.
The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, as part of preparations towards the next general election.
The aspirants include former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; Abetifi MP and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong; Bosomtwe MP and former Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum; and former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong.
