The Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, has declared the Majo-Trasaaco-Botima enclave in the Adenta West Municipality as a security zone with immediate effect.

This directive is to ensure peace and maintain law and order in the enclave following the ongoing disputes over land ownership between traditional authorities and family interests in the area.

She said this during the signing of the performance contract by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Coordinating Directors at the Greater Accra Regional Council on January 30.

The Regional Minister directed that all development projects in the area are to stop until further notice pending the final decision of the court.

She warned that any individual who goes against this directive and continues with any development activities shall be liable to appropriate enforcement, including the demolition of such structures.

Madam Ocloo said police and military forces have been deployed to maintain order, noting that only security personnel authorised by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC ) are permitted to operate in the enclave.

She added that REGSEC will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of residents and the preservation of peace in the region.

The Minister also raised concerns about the rising number of fires in the marketplaces across the region, and encouraged MMDAs to provide spaces in the marketplaces for permanent stationing of district fire service personnel to enable rapid response to emergencies.
