Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer ahead of the 2028 election, defeating four other contenders.
Following his declaration by Electoral Commission officials, the party held an inauguration ceremony at its headquarters to formally inaugurate him as the NPP’s presidential candidate.
The former Vice President under President Nana Akufo-Addo won the flagbearership race against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Bawumia called for unity and inclusivity within the party, urging supporters of the other aspirants to join him in working toward the party’s success in the 2024 general elections.
He expressed gratitude to party delegates, election officials, security agencies, and the media for ensuring a credible and peaceful process.

The primary was conducted smoothly, with over 211,000 accredited delegates casting their ballots at more than 300 polling centers nationwide.
