The Gushegu MP, Hassan Tampuli, has lauded Dr Bryan Acheampong for what he described as an impressive and unexpected performance in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.

Although Dr Bawumia emerged as the clear winner of the contest, he said Dr Acheampong distinguished himself as the standout performer, particularly given that it was his first attempt at contesting the party’s flagbearer slot.

Dr Bawumia secured 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid ballots cast, earning the mandate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 46,554 votes (23.76 per cent), while Dr Acheampong finished third with 36,303 votes, accounting for 18.53 per cent. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong followed with 1,999 votes (1.02 per cent) and 402 votes (0.21 per cent), respectively.

“As far as I am concerned, the real star of this contest is Bryan Acheampong. For a first-time aspirant to come out so strongly and secure the number of votes he did shows that the race was much tighter than many of us anticipated,” Mr Tampuli said in an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, February 2.
